One person says…"I got this. I’ll continue my usual workouts, go on my usual group rides. I’m sure I’ll be okay."
Now that person is on the trip. They’re surprised that their legs are aching, their lungs are burning and the thin mountain air feels even thinner than it should. They’re struggling and unable to enjoy the trip they were so excited about and paid a lot of money for.
Then there’s the procrastinator. The trip draws closer and they’re getting nervous.
Those mountain passes that looked hard, but doable, are starting to look more and more overwhelming.
So, they “cram” like they’re cramming for a test. They become obsessive about getting in shape. Every free moment is spent riding, working out or sweating in the gym. They’re constantly complaining about being tired and sore. They're not even sure why they signed up for the trip in the first place.

We provide specific, easy to follow workouts that apply directly to your vacation itinerary. The plan is designed to help you get in shape safely and effectively so you’re ready for an amazing Adventure Vacation.
Delivered through the Irons Active App, your custom-designed training plan will consist of:

How It Works
- 1We get to know you -- Through an extensive health and fitness questionnaire, we will get to know you. We will learn how strong you are, how much endurance you have, any injuries you have, etc. This will serve as our starting point.
- 2We get to know your Adventure Vacation -- We will do extensive research into your Adventure Vacation. We will learn the specifics of your trip. What type of activities will you be doing each day? How long will you be active each day? What is the longest day? The most elevation? The fastest you need to ride? Etc. Etc. This serves as our end point.
- 3We write a custom training plan for you -- Once we have your starting point and your ending point, we write a training plan specifically for you. We make sure that the plan is effective, safe, fun and motivating. We make sure it gets you to your goal.
- 4We send you the training plan daily via the Irons Active App -- Every day, you can log into your app to see the workout of the day. Along with written instructions, there are videos, timers, and other toys to make your workouts fun and effective.

About Your Coach
Nick is an author, ultra-endurance athlete, and strength and conditioning coach (CSCS). Nick made national headlines when he became the first person in 70 years to swim the length of the Mississippi River and the first to swim it with the locks and dams of its "modern" form. As an athlete and a coach, Nick knows what it's like to train for an event and complete a goal.
Nick and his team have been writing training plans for more than 20 years. Preparing people for trips as challenging as the Mt. Everest Base Camp or Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail. Will an Irons Active plan work for me?
Now, I know what you’re thinking, “How do I know this will work for me.”
There is a mound of academic research done over the past 100 years on fitness. This includes strength and conditioning training. It all points to one conclusion:

What if I’ve never exercised before?
The beauty of the Irons Active plan is that it starts wherever you are physically.
We will never have you go further than you are able to go at the moment. For example: we will never have you lift more than you are able to lift. It is as simple as that.
And you will progress like everyone else. As your stamina improves, you will be able to bike for longer distances or hike for longer periods of time. As you get stronger, you will be able to lift more weights.
But I warn you…you will probably get hooked. Once you bring out your inner athlete, there is no going back.
What if I: [already workout, am already in great shape, ran a marathon last year…]?
Since we started training people for Adventure Vacations, we’ve had a ton of different types of people who have used our training programs.

How much time will this take?
The workout program is 12 weeks long.
You should expect 4-5 workouts a week. Four of those workouts are less than an hour. One longer workout per week will add a few more hours.
Depending on your goals, most programs can be completed in less than 10 hours a week.
Couldn’t I just…
- Buy a book on endurance training? There are some excellent books about training out there. And they’re great for those of us who have the time to read, digest the material, and then figure out how to apply it to designing an entire program. Yes, we all should be reading all the time. But do you really have that time to spare? On top of your day job, projects, kids, grandkids, family, friends, etc.?
